HISTON has been given a huge boost ahead of the new season with news that club sponsor Tony Roach has provided the funds for the club to bring in three new players.
With the Stutes having already signed two new players, the manager has been keen to bring in at least two more signings to bolster the squad and ensure the Stutes have the depth in their squad to again compete with Non League's best in the Blue Square Premier. Having finished third in only their second season, Histon are keen to once again make a serious challenge for the play-offs.
Chairman Gareth Baldwin said: “It's been a tough summer for us with money very tight and the loss of Setanta has made us tighten our belts even further in case there is no TV money this season. So to have Tony come up with that amount of money is such a huge boost for everyone at the club and gives the Manager an opportunity to get us back up to the numbers we had last season.
“I expect this season to be very difficult for clubs so if we can make an impact early and build on that I think anything is possible."
Tony Roach is no stranger to Histon FC having already funded the new terrace, the Ground Control Room, Medical Centre as well as sponsoring a player's wages, but on this occasion and in this climate his gesture could well shape the Stutes season like never before.
