In this week’s Ipswich Town nostalgia, we look back to September 18, 2006, when goals from Alan Lee and Simon Walton helped the Blues to a 2-2 draw with Birmingham City at St Andrews

Town took the lead after 50 minutes when a mistake by David Dunn, gifted the ball to Alan Lee, who was clinical from 12 yards, lashing a left foot shot across into the corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

But, the home side were level in the 73rd minute when DJ Campbell took advantage of a spill by Town keeper Lewis Price, with the striker reacting first to the loose ball and made no mistake putting the ball into the net.

That spurred Magilton’s side on and within four minutes the Blues were ahead once more, when Simon Walton’s shot was deflected in off Bruno N’Gotty, whose afternoon got even worse when he received a straight red card for kicking out at Lee.

Despite Town taking the lead, the home side were not finished as they won a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area four minutes from time, which was taken by Dunn who hit his first effort into the wall but his second flew through a crowded area and past Price.
