COLCHESTER United’s opening day opponents, Preston North End, are set to sell their prize asset just days before the U’s trip to Deepdale this Saturday.
Preston fans have been left dejected by the news that star winger Keith Treacy is to be sold to neighbours Burnley, after the two clubs agreed a fee for the Republic of Ireland international over the weekend.
Preston are heavily in debt and looking to cut costs following their relegation from the Championship last season, hence the sale of classy wide-man Treacy.
Lilywhites manager Phil Brown has admitted that the Treacy deal is “out of his hands.”
Treacy played 46 games for club and country last season, scoring nine goals.
The U’s will go into this Saturday’s opening day fixture on the back of an unbeaten pre-season campaign.
