Football: Lowestoft Town could be set for a shock move to the Southern League next season.

The Trawlermen, who won the Ridgeons Premier this season, have applied for promotion up the non-league pyramid, and it is believed the Southern League is where they will end up. An announcement is expected today.

A meeting of League representatives were thrashing out League structures yesterday and although the Ryman League may have been Lowestoft's preferred option, it is thought the Southern League is where they will end up.

One of the reasons for that is that there could well be an east and west Southern League next season, which would suit the Trawlermen more than the current midlands division.

Meanwhile Tiptree are hoping to move into the Essex Senior League, which is where relegated Witham could find themselves.

The majority of the League structures, including the Ridgeons League will be released today.
