Suffolk father and daughter team John and Katherine Rednall just missed out in the final of the National Family Pairs Bowls Championship in Nottingham.

The duo, from Stowmarket, faced Lewis and Wendy King, from Swale, in the finale.

A see-saw match saw the Kings make the better start, but the Rednalls picked up back-to-back trebles on the fifth and sixth ends to lead, 7-6, before the Swale duo powered into a 15-7 lead after ten ends.

A four on the eleventh end brought the Ipswich pair back into contention, but the Kings closed the game down with a 1-1-2 sequence to lead, 19-11 after 14 ends and won 20-16 – though it must be said that Katherine Rednall did her best to turn things around, but did not have the rub of the green.

Katherine, the two-time world women’s singles champion said: “Dad played really well, and I was on target so many times, but hardly ever got the results I was looking for.”
