Braintree 2 Clacton 1

Clacton fought hard and battled away, still creating chances at the end of this open fixture.

With both midfields failing to dominate the game the keepers and short corner routines were the deciding factor, with the Braintree being more successful with their short corners.

Straight from the start Clacton cut through the heart of Braintree to earn a short corner when Rik Coleman and Sam Hodge exchanged passes. The Seasiders couldn't get the vital touch this week to continue the scoring from the first corner earlier on though.

The home side took a while to get going, but when they got their first short corner it was drilled into the goal for 1-0. The home side doubled their lead ten minutes later poking home from another short corner.

The Seasiders kept working hard and creating chances and in the last minute of the first half Coleman fired into the goal to give Clacton something to battle for in the second half.

The second half was played out without any addition to the score line, but both keepers were kept very busy.

Clacton's man-of-the-match Mike Key made numerous saves to keep the Seasiders within touching distance of getting a result. At the other end Coleman and Hodge were causing havoc, Clacton had an appeal for a penalty turned and the home side were forced to resort to keeping the ball in the corners to secure their victory and promotion hopes.

Next week Clacton finish the league season with a home game against Ramgarhia at Clacton Leisure Centre (14:00).
