This was an impressive home performance by the Iron that left manager Brad Quinton ‘absolutely delighted’ with his side’s response after the previous week’s home defeat, writes Dave Ward.

The Iron had the best start possible with striker Darnell Wynter scoring in the first minute, cutting in from the left wing to fire a great 20-yard shot into the far corner of the net.

The young Seasiders though fought back well and played some great approach football but it all kept fizzling out in the final quarter against a strong Iron defence that showed far more composure and unity than in their previous game.

The turning point of the game came on 53 minutes, a great piece of football saw Samir Bihmoutine’s pinpoint left-wing cross fell straight at the feet of Karl Oliyide who fired a fine first-time shot into the net off a post giving the Iron a healthy 2-0 lead.

It was all downhill for the visitors as the Iron dominated the game with some exceptionally good passing moves up the field and the only surprise for home fans is that they had to wait until the fourth of seven minutes of added before they scored a third.

It was a superbly taken goal by substitute Marcel Barrington who broke clear from the halfway line, brushing aside two defenders before driving a powerful shot into the roof of the net giving keeper Dan Lincoln no chance.

Fourteen minutes before full-time Barrington had missed a great chance to score when running through unchallenged towards the visitors’ goal but keeper Lincoln pulled off a great save to deny the young striker at bay.

A satisfied Quinton said: “It was a much all round improved performance after the previous week and the response I wanted from my players and crucially we kept a clean sheet.

“There was more energy about us right throughout the side, much better pass and movement and we could have scored more goals. I’m glad Darnell scored because he’s been frustrating because I know what he can do but he has struggled but the goal gave him the ideal lift.”

He added: “We had a thorough sort out during the week’s training sessions where it was case of going back to basics in most respects. We effectively played with three at the back in this game and the system worked well for us and shows you adapt your style sometimes from game to game.

“I liked the football we played and we created several goal scoring chances. But fans must realise that we are still a young side and still learning and that all takes time.”

Next up for the Iron is the long trip to Poole Town on Saturday for another league game, kick off 3pm.
