COLCHESTER United’s scheduled match at Brighton tomorrow has been postponed due to safety concerns in the areas surrounding the Withdean Stadium.

Following heavy snowfall in Sussex, local referee Harry Lennard carried out an inspection this morning and has taken the decision due to call the game off.

He said: “With a bit of hard work there is every chance that the pitch would be playable but you have got to take into consideration the surrounding areas – in particular the roads, pathways and walkways.

“For me there is a huge question mark over the safety if it were to go ahead. The safety of the fans is the most important thing.

“It’s very frustrating for the fans but on this occasion there are too many factors going against us because of the weather. From what I’ve seen we’re looking at more freezing weather tonight as well.”
