GEORGE Burley has been out of football management since parting company with Ipswich Town at the start of October, writes Tony Garnett. Now he is being listed by bookmakers as a possible successor to Jean Tigana at Fulham.

Burley has not been paid by Ipswich Town since December 31 despite being under contract. He was acclaimed as manager of the year after guiding Ipswich Town to fifth place in the Premiership in the 2000-01 season. The following season his fortunes changed with relegation to the Nationwide League Division One.

Last night Burley said: "It is a very good job at Fulham but I don't think they are going to rush into making an appointment. About 20 people have been mentioned. Presumably they will draw up a shortlist and then start interviews. I can only wait and see.

"I feel ready to get back into football now. I have had a good little breather," he said.

Burley said that he had contacted Ipswich Town about what was going to happen about the CVA. He has become one of the creditors and said: "There was not very much they could tell me."
