Division 6SE

IES Mens 3rd XI 1 Bury St Edmunds Mens 5th XI 2

AFTER struggling to get 11 players IES managed to start the game with a full contingent and having won the toss immediately took the game to Bury. Some excellent movement down the wings saw IES pressure Bury's defence several times, so it was with some dismay that Bury took the lead 15 minutes or so into the game. A cross, which appeared to hit a Bury player's foot, deflected onto an IES foot and was lifted into the path of another Bury player to be struck home. Thus IES went through a period of a little disarray and some skilful play by one of the more youthful Bury players saw them go 2 ahead 5 minutes later.

After half time, with IES strengthened by the fresh legs of Dave Charles, again regrouped and resumed the pressure on Bury. Several attacks by Bury were splendidly repulsed by John Oakley and with the ball being pulled wide to worry the Bury flanks it was only a matter of time before IES scored.

A penalty corner awarded on 32 minutes was poorly cleared by the Bury defence for Charles to convert. It was a shame the game could not have lasted longer as IES looked to be able to score an equaliser. However, it was not to be and the game ended in Bury's favour.

IES travel the small distance to Henley Road to face Felixstowe in an away game next weekend.
