Bury St Edmunds Director of Rugby, Jon Curry, is looking for an improved performance from his side away at struggling Old Redcliffians in National League Two South this afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

Bury have suffered back-to-back defeats, at the hands of leaders Rams (47-21 away) and at home to Tonbridge Juddians (0-10) in the wind and rain last weekend.

Old Redcliffians have lost five of their first six fixtures, with their only success coming via a 35-15 win at basement dwellers London Irish Wild Geese three weeks ago.

But Bury will have to up their game, to return to winning ways.

“We didn’t play the conditions very well last weekend. We were poor in that respect,” admitted Curry.

“I was happy with the commitment shown, and the hard work that was put in, but they (Tonbridge) adapted better to the conditions.

“Of course I’ll be looking for a reaction this weekend, but Old Redcliffians are at home so it will be a difficult match.

“A lot of their games have been tight, so their position is deceptive,” added Curry, with reference to the home side’s 14th place in a 16-strong division.

Bury will be forced into changes this afternoon, with injuries ruling out both hooker Calum Torpey and captain Ollie Watson.

The influential Torpey suffered a serious ankle injury towards the end of the first half of last Saturday’s bruising battle at The Haberden. Initially it was feared that Torpey had fractured his ankle, but instead he is sidelined with ligament damage, although that still means an absence of between four and six weeks.

Watson was back in the side against Tonbridge, after a facial injury sustained in the win over Barnes from three weeks ago, but he will miss out on today’s trip to the south-west – Old Redcliffians are based at Brislington, near Bristol – because the stitches opened up again last weekend.

The Wolfpack are currently in mid-table, winning three and losing three of their first half-dozen fixtures.
