Bury St Edmunds' under-10 rugby side were pegged back to a draw in their Gulliver's Bowl Final at Twickenham.

Playing Weston-Super-Mare's Hornets RFC, Bury stormed into a 10-0 lead before their determined opponents fought back for a share of the spoils.

Around 100 Bury supporters travelled to the national stadium alongside numerous other supporters all there for various different age group matches throughout the day.

In atrocious conditions Bury started well and put immediate pressure on the Hornets try line. Ryan McGowan made a good break at pace from deep, but was thwarted near the line.

Bury continued to probe and eventually Andrew Devoy exploited a gap to open Bury's scoring.

Confidence flooded through the Bury side and, after some flowing rugby, they got the ball wide to Toby Eaton. From his own half, Eaton's pace and trickery eluded the Hornets defence to give Bury a 10-0 advantage.

Looking a little rusty in defence due a recent lack of competitive games, Bury conceded several penalties and it was from one of these that the Hornets released their centre Danny Bailey who scored in the corner just before half time.

After the break, Bury's forwards continued to drive back the Hornets scrum but passing along the line to liberate their wingers proved troublesome in the wet conditions.

The Hornets gradually clawed their way back into the game and were eventually rewarded with an equalising try by Kieran Manning right at the end of the game.

The 10-10 score saw the Bowl shared by both sides, a fair reflection of a game that bodes well for Bury's future success.
