Bury St Edmunds 1 Chelmsford II 1

CHELMSFORD travelled up to Bury St Edmunds knowing that a good result was needed. Despite good inter-play between the Chelmsford defence, midfield and forwards Bury went ahead against the run of play thanks to a converted a penalty corner. Chelmsford responded with some strong attacks for the rest of the first half but could not find the final touch to draw level

The second half saw Chelmsford immediately pressing forward and after two failed penalty corners, Ally Farrar evened the score with a clinical finish in the "D" from open play. Chelmsford continued to pressurise the Bury defence with Karen Cooper hitting the cross bar and the greens enjoying no less than three one on ones with the keeper and double digit penalty corners.

In a rather one sided second half, Chelmsford could be forgiven for thinking that it wasn't going to be their day when good defensive play against Chelmsford's set pieces and a formidable performance by the Bury goalie thwarted a number of clear cut chances any of which would have put the game beyond doubt. Instead, the relentless pressure could not break the home team's defence and the game finished at a draw, leaving Chelmsford feeling frustrated by the result.

Chelmsford will take away from this match the knowledge that they showed some strong attacking hockey, through effective passing from deep in defence to the forward line with good distribution of the ball.
