Bury St Edmunds need to improve on their performance from last weekend, a 47-21 defeat at leaders Rams, if they are to topple high-flying Tonbridge Juddians in the National League Two South at The Haberden this afternoon (kick-off 3pm).
Despite Rams generally being regarded as the title favourites, Bury Director of Rugby Jon Curry was disappointed with his side’s display at the Berkshire club last Saturday, especially as they led 14-12 at one stage.
Curry is looking for a better display on home turf, against a Tonbridge side who have only lost one of their first five fixtures and currently sit in fourth slot.
“We were poor last weekend,” insisted Curry.
“We didn’t do what we set out to do. Our performance on the day was poor, but we are always looking to win our home games, so this weekend will be a good challenge. We need to improve, and I’m hoping that Tonbridge are not quite as good as the Rams.”
Bury were missing several regulars at Rams, but Curry confirmed that the trio of captain Ollie Watson, No. 8 Yasin Browne and full-back Cameron Ritchie are all expected to return today.
“They should be back, but we shall see,” continued Curry.
“Tonbridge are a good side. They have two good half-backs, and a solid scrum, so it should be a good game,” added Curry.
Following their opening day 37-45 home defeat to Henley, the Wolfpack have won their last two at The Haberden, against Barnes (22-12) and Guernsey (70-26).

- Meanwhile, Colchester will look to extend their 100% record, when they entertain Luton in a London League One North fixture this afternoon (3pm).
They are expected to make a few changes in the pack, with captain Liam Pickett, Brock Price, Alex Burman all nursing minor injuries. In will come Dan Brennan, Topby Hill and Eli Castle, with Dan Whiteman captaining the side.
Colchester won at previously unbeaten North Walsham 21-12 last weekend, to make it five wins out of five. They have already defeated Diss, Ruislip and Old Priorians on home turf, although they currently sit second in the table behind leaders Rochford Hundred.
