BURY St Edmunds stayed on the heels of joint leaders Mildenhall and Worlington in Division One of the Hunts County Bats Suffolk League thanks to an eight-wicket win at Acton on Sunday.

The home side had posted a useful 217 for seven, after 70 from Lee Phillips and 53 from Tom Hodge. But in reply J Thorne scored an unbeaten 121 to guide Bury to their target with help from B Grisby (46 not out) and Pete Thearle (35).

Brettenham remain top of Division Two after seeing off Withersfield by 93 runs, with Barker (80), Holland (49) and Gill (39) leading them to a winning total of 221 for six.

Gavin Brinkley (four for 13) and Patrick Barker (three for 34) then combined well to put Withersfield out for 128.

Battisford were bowled out for 107 by Walsham, Forbes taking four for 33 and Ali Waugh three for 29. The Walsham batsmen knocked off the runs for the loss of just two wickets.

Rougham are setting the pace in Division Three and their latest win was by nine wickets against Hartest & Coldham, Ralph Pruden (four for 24) and Ian Firth (58 not out) leading the way.

Nowton went one better than Rougham, dismissing Horringer for 102 and quickly wrapping up a 10-wicket win.

In the Suffolk Cup, Exning scored two wins over Bury St Edmunds and Old Newton. After dismissing Old Newton for 62 they won by eight wickets, then scraped a one-run win over Bury after half-centuries from Darren Hayward and Dave Atkinson had given them a total of 150 for seven.

Kesgrave came down to earth with a bump on Sunday when they lost for the first time in Section A of the MSC Suffolk Alliance.

They fell 18 runs short of Easton’s total of 217 for six but remain clear at the top for while they have lost one game, all the others have lost at least two.

John Todd scored 54 at the top of the Easton innings but it was Jolyon Kimmerling’s 77 that pushed the total past 200. Joe Bonner was the best of the Kesgrave bowlers with three for 53.

Kesgrave were given a good start by Dominic Gallant (55) and Steve Worne (78) but once they were dismissed and Jon Booth (21) and Nathan Young (17) followed, the rest of the innings crumbled to the wiles of Fred Mitchell, who picked up five for 28.

The last seven batsmen scored 17 between them and Easton were comfortable winners.

Rumburgh are still looking for their first win after losing by 58 runs at home to Ipswich. Chris Bell (52) and Ed Pryke (46) led Ipswich to 177 all out, and then it was all about Kevin Baldry who snapped up seven for 26 to send Rumburgh packing for 119. Ben Baldwin top-scored with 34 for the losers.

Dan Philpot (three for 13), Ben Buckmaster (three for 16), Sean Taylor (two for 22) and Karl Gooderham (one for none) skittled Stradbroke for 57 and set up an eight-wicket win for Wortham. Darren Philpot led the team to victory with 32 not out.

Dean Francis scored 79 and Rob Harris 56 for BT & Waldringfield, but their total of 178 for eight was not enough as Steve Owston (68) and Dan Crane (82) led Saxmundham to a seven-wicket win.
