Bury Town beat Leiston on penalties in Suffolk Premier Cup

BURY Town beat Leiston 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw last night to book their place in this season’s LB Group Suffolk Premier Cup final.

A terrific tussle saw John Sands fire Bury into a 51st minute lead, but Leiston got the equaliser they deserved when Luke Hammond’s sidefoot found the top corner with just three minutes of normal time remaining.

There were no further goals in extra time, but Lee Reed, Lee Smith, Billy Clark and Connor Hall scored from the spot for Bury, and although David Head and Hammond were successful for Leiston, Rhys Henry and Stuart Boardley saw their efforts saved by Marcus Garnham.

A crowd of 507 at Needham Market saw both teams produce a superb advert for Suffolk football in the county’s premier knock-out competition.
