Bury Town will be looking to make home advantage count, when they entertain Horsham in an FA Trophy extra-preliminary round tie at Ram Meadow this afternoon (3pm).

Fresh from a 2-1 win at Witham Town in the Bostik North on Tuesday night, a result which propelled the Blues up to eighth in the table, Ben Chenery’s side will be hoping to continue their good form at the expense of a Horsham side who knocked Heybridge Swifts out of the FA Cup in a seven-goal thriller, 4-3 last Saturday.

Bury have only played three home games so far, and are currently unbeaten at Ram Meadow with a draw against Romford and a couple of wins over Great Wakering Rovers (2-1) and Soham Town Rangers (1-0).

“We have done well at home, but then we do tend to do quite well on our home ground,” explained manager Chenery.

“A lot of work goes into making the pitch so good. It’s an excellent playing surface, which suits our style of football. We can get the ball down and play

“Our home crowd has also been very supportive, so we always feel very comfortable playing at home.

“But Horsham are a good side. I have had reports of them, and seen them play myself, and I am expecting a really good cup tie this weekend.

“Unlike so many teams who come to our place and try to stifle us, making it hard to break them down, I think this will be a very different kind of game.

“Horsham will be coming to try and win the game, so it should be end-to-end and a proper cup tie. They will be looking to play, and so will we.”

The Blues should be at virtually full-strength, although leading scorer Ollie Hughes, who netted his fourth goal of the season in the 2-1 win at Witham, faces a fitness test on a sore toe.

“The pitch was terrible, for this time of the year, at Witham. But I thought we adapted very well. Our strikers worked well and it was good to score from a set piece,” said Chenery, with reference to Kyran Clements’ opening goal at Spa Road.

- Meanwhile, Mildenhall Town are away at Soham Town Rangers in a Bostik North clash this afternoon. Mildenhall notched their first win of the season thanks to a 3-0 home success over Dereham Town on Tuesday night.
