Bury Town welcome Bognor Regis Town to Ram Meadow this afternoon, looking to build on their good performance from Bank Holiday Monday, when they beat Canvey Island 1-0.

Manager Ben Chenery and first-team coach Russell Short continue to develop and add strength to their squad, with defender Justin Miller the latest to join the Blues last week.

Miller, 33, made his Bury debut against Canvey Island, as a second-half substitute, having left Chenery’s former club, Conference South side Chelmsford City, for whom he played in three separate spells.

The former Ipswich Town youngster also has a wealth of Football League experience, having played for Port Vale and, most notably, Leyton Orient, making over 150 appearances

Miller looked impressive in midfield on Monday after coming off the bench, as did former Ipswich Wanderers’ front-man Remi Garrett, who also got his first taste of action against Canvey Island. He will be hoping to get to start a full match soon.

Blues fans will be looking forward to seeing more of this pair in the coming weeks, as well as new goalscoring hero Steve Holder, who grabbed the winner against the Gulls.

Chenery’s men are proving hard to beat at home, having only conceded one goal in three matches, with two draws and a win. Confidence and belief is growing among the squad after their shaky start to the season.

“We’ve got a good record at home. We’re working within financial constraints, but we’re competing and I’m still looking to improve the squad,” said Chenery.

“We have lacked a bit of composure on the ball, but they are young lads and we will get better.”

Bognor Regis, joint-managed by Darin Killpartrick and Jamie Howell, are still waiting for their first win of the new season after losing their first four games and drawing their last two, conceding a 1-0 lead in the last minute of both games against Kingstonian and newly-promoted Peacehaven.

Bognor have enjoyed success against Bury in the away fixtures at Nyewood Lane over the last two seasons, winning 5-1 and 5-2.
