Bury St Edmunds head coach Jon Curry is hoping his side can have some fun in the sun when they host champions-elect Cinderford.

In what is Bury’s final home game of the campaign, they will be looking to end Cinderford’s 22-match winning run which has taken them to the brink of winning the National League Division Two South title.

The Gloucestershire club have lost just once this season, but Curry insisted his side will not roll over when the champions come to town as they bid to get back to winning ways after losing at Chinnor by a single point last weekend.

“I think it will be a good occasion played in good weather and a good game against a very good side who are top of the league and are rightfully going to be champions,” he said. “It’s a sunny day so what more can you ask for?

“Leagues don’t lie when you get to this stage of the season and they’ve won the games and are where they are because they deserve it and deserve to win it.

“They are on a very good run of wins (22) but that’s not to say it has to be 23.

“We just need to manage the game better than we did last week because it was that awareness, concentration and a little bit of game management we need to get over the line. That’s it.

“As long as the lads perform as they have over the last few weeks then I will be happy.”

Curry replaced Ollie Smith as head coach in February and has been pleased with the progress made during his time in charge.

“I can’t really comment on the whole season because I’ve not been here, but we’ve had a good six or eight weeks together,” Curry said.

“I’ve got to know the players a lot better and it’s put me in a good place to start next year.

“The club’s in a good place with a very good plan working forward. It’s a long-term plan and I think those plans will bear some very nice fruit in the years to come.”

Meanwhile Sudbury face the biggest game of their season this afternoon.

Sudbury, runners-up in London League Division Two North East, behind Rochford Hundred, travel to 2NW runners-up Hampstead (3pm).

The winners will gain promotion to London One North.next season.
