HAVING not played a match for nearly three weeks, this was a useful workout for Bury against a Cambridge side made up of CRC players and 1st XI fringe players.

Cambridge started well and twice went close to opening the scoring in the opening ten minutes. Bury then settled and Sam Reed forced a good save from Laurie Walker before he and Lee Reed both shot wide.

Cambridge took the lead on 24 minutes when from a corner Blaine Hudson outjumped Marcus Garnham to head home

Cambridge then took control for a period but were unable to increase their lead.

Bury came back strongly towards the end of the half with Craig Radcliffe firing just wide and Neil Andrews and Michael Steward forcing good saves from Walker

Bury made five changes at the interval and were soon under pressure with Nick Pope saving well from Lee Phillips.

Two goals for Cambridge in three minutes then put the game out of Bury`s reach.

On 57 minutes Phillips doubled the lead when he forced the ball home from close range, and two minutes later Jack Eades got their third, converting a low cross from the left.

Possession was equally shared from then on but few chances were created at either end. Bury`s best effort was by Rhys Henry but it was well saved by Martin Davies
