NORWICH City have signed veteran striker Carl Cort on a permanent deal until the end of the season.

Cort has been out of contract and has spent the past few days training with the Canaries at Colney.

The former England Under-21 international, started his career at Wimbledon, and played there from 1996 to 2000, scoring 25 goals in 93 appearances in all competitions.

Newcastle boss Bobby Robson pay £7 million for Cort in the summer of 2000. He scored on his home debut at St James' Park against Derby County but suffered hamstring problems and underwent surgery after only a few appearances.

He eventually returned to the first team in March 2001, and went on to score five goals in ten appearances before the season ended.

Having recovered from injury, he moved to Molineux for £2 million in January 2004. He scored five goals for his new club that season. In the 2004-05 season, his form improved and he scored 16 goals in 40 appearances.

Cort began the season well, scoring nine goals in his first 11 matches. Injury interrupted his season again, and by the end of May, Cort had added only two more to his tally, totalling 11 goals in 24 appearances.

Cort signed for Leicester City in June 2007. He scored his first and only goal for the Foxes against Chelsea in the fourth round of the Carling Cup in October 2007 at Stamford Bridge.

Cort subsequently spent a short spell in Spain with UD Marbella.

The Canaries hope to have the paperwork concluded in time for Wednesday's trip to Vicarage Road to face Watford.
