Ipswich-based and four times world and multi-national Hot Rod champion, Carl Boardley competed in the third round of the Ginetta GT4 Supercup as part of the British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park at the weekend, writes Dean Cox

And he picked up another large points haul as he chases the outright Championship in 2018.

Two open practice sessions in bright conditions on the Friday yielded a couple of very rare visits to the Gravel Traps as a steering and brake issue came to light, but by official qualifying on the Saturday morning, a best time put Boardley in P4 for race one after a frantic pit stop to resolve the loss of power steering!.

Race one on the Saturday afternoon in now very hot conditions saw Boardley continue his points haul with another fine second place to Championship leader, Charlie Ladell with the Boardley Team’s aim again of damage limitation and podium positions firmly in focus.

Oulton Park stages two Ginetta GT4 Supercup races instead of the customary three and by Sunday afternoon, the circuit was sweltering under blazing sunshine.

With Boardley off the front row this time, he raced Ladell to the first corner but had to yield as Ladell had the line.

Throughout the race gains were won and lost as Ladell appeared to have a little extra in the second segment of the circuit whilst Boardley endeavoured to snatch the lead.

But it was to no avail as Ipswich ace Boardley came home second in front of the ITV4 TV cameras, with the car still not quite to his liking – but more points bagged.

Boardley sits in a strong second place in the Ginetta GT4 Championship, as we prepare for the next round when the BTCC visits Croft on June 23 and 24.
