Carlton Park 3 Harwich 1

Carlton Park recorded an impressive victory against league leaders Harwich at the weekend.

Park knew they had to start the game stronger than they did when they visited Harwich and this they managed to do. For the first ten minutes they hassled and closed down the opponents but Harwich soon found their form and started to pressurise the home side's defence, but some excellent work at the back from keeper Karen Fletcher, who had her busiest game of the season, supported by defenders Mel Cooksey, Emma Tuckwell, Michelle Scarf and Georgie Causon kept them out.

The Park breakthrough came against the run of play when a good cross from Vicky Le Fanu was rolled over the line by Sarah Whatling.

In the second half Park doubled their lead when a goalmouth scramble was pushed over the line, again by Sarah Whatling. Park had now the slight edge in the game and moved the ball well in midfield. Wendy Corneby and Kerry Whatling were allowed space to move up the field to distribute the ball to the advancing attackers and Sarah Whatling completed her hat trick from a well-worked new penalty corner routine.

With three minutes to go Harwich got a consolation goal but Park knew by then that they had done enough to secure the points.
