Sam Walker could be on the verge of signing for Bolton Wanderers.

Former U’s keeper Walker, who turned down a new deal this summer after rattling up 200 league appearances for the Essex club, has been having a trial at Championship outfit Bolton, who are managed by ex-U’s boss Phil Parkinson.

Walker, 26, played in a behind closed doors friendly against Morecambe last week, and was an unused substitute against La Liga side Girona on Saturday.

Ex-Chelsea trainee Walker gave the U’s terrific service over the last six years.

He was a dominant No. 1, returning from a long-term knee injury to be ever-present in 2016-17, while also only missing the last two league games of last term.

Walker, such a commanding keeper, made 213 appearances in all for the U’s, but failed to agree terms over a new deal this summer.
