Colchester United’s second pre-season friendly of the summer is at Needham Market tomorrow evening (7pm).

The U’s kicked-off their summer campaign with a 2-0 win at Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday, while for Needham, managed by former U’s skipper Richard Wilkins, this will be their first friendly.

One of the U’s players to impress at Maldon was 20-year-old Charley Edge, who operated as a left wing-back during the first half.

U’s boss John McGreal said: “We have a lot of midfielders at the club, which is the area where Charley played for the under-23s last year.

“He came here (from Everton in 2015) as a left winger, and we’ve got Kins (Lewis Kinsella) in that position as well. I just thought we’d use Charley in that role, at Maldon.

“And he did particularly well in the first half. He’s got quick legs and has got good quality on the ball.”

Admission at Bloomfields tomorrow night is £5 for adults. Under-16s will not be charged.
