Chelmsford were left frustrated after they felt two key decisions went against them in this narrow defeat to Canterbury, a side still chasing a European place.

The Essex side went close to opening the scoring when, in the seventh minute, a shot from captain Lisa Wooding went wide of the post.

Canterbury replied to this near miss by attacking and putting the Chelmsford defence under pressure. The visitors were denied any goal-scoring chances due to some fine saves made by goalkeeper Katy Roberts and stout defending by Emer Harte and Rebecca McGuiness.

Midway through the first half, Chloe Rogers made a run down the right wing, going past the Canterbury defenders with effortless ease. Her resulting pass from the back line put caused confusion within the goalmouth area and Tracey Comber was able to hit the ball into the goal, however, the strike was disallowed as it had been deemed that there had been an illegal tackle made on the Canterbury defence.

After the interval the match continued to produce exciting moments for the supporters to enjoy and there was not much to separate the two sides. However, just as it looked as if the match was heading for a draw, Canterbury scored a goal in the final seconds of the game. The goal was allowed to stand even though the ball had appeared to hit the foot of a Canterbury player.

Chelmsford complete their season next week with an away fixture against Sutton Coldfield, who are trying to avoid relegation.
