Chelmsford City look to extend their winning run to four matches as newly-promoted Bognor Regis visit the Melbourne Community Stadium tomorrow, writes Matt Lee.

The Clarets have lost just once at home this season – a 2-0 reverse home defeat to St Albans City – however a run of wins more recently have seen Rod Stringer’s side leap-frog the Saints to sit top the Vanarama National League South.

Bognor began their debut season at Step Two in impressive fashion by remaining unbeaten in their opening five fixtures, however more recently defeats to East Thurrock United and Eastbourne Borough have seen the Rocks slip down to tenth position.

Both sides had difficult bank holiday weekends with Chelmsford City hosting Truro City before travelling to Concord Rangers for the Essex Derby; whereas Bognor travelled to East Thurrock United and then hosted Eastbourne Borough.

An impressive performance at home to Truro City saw the Clarets finish as 2-0 victors, with strikes from Matthew Johnson and Chris Dickson opening the weekend in style.

A trip to Canvey Island proved the next task for Stringer’s side as they looked to shorten the gap between themselves and St Albans City. Scott Davies’ long-range strike moments into the second half sent Chelmsford on their way before Lee Barnard scored his fourth goal of the season.

It proved to be a different story for the Rocks, however, as they fell victim to two successive defeats.

Jack Pearce’s side were without a number of key players for the opening game of the weekend, however a further defeat followed 48 hours later as Eastbourne Borough left 1-0 victors.

Speaking ahead of the Rocks’ visit, City boss Rod Stringer revealed he expected yet another difficult game in the League.

“Bognor will look to play football. They have a big pitch and like to play very expansive football when at home, from what I have been told they are very good footballers, but so are we.

“We are back on our own turf and we aim to get the three points again. Every game this season will be tough. You have to earn your rights, if you don’t get enough possession of the ball and make mistakes then after 90 minutes it boils down to that.”
