Chelmsford VI 0 Clacton II 2

Clacton's enthusiastic travelling support had plenty to cheer on a cold, wet afternoon in Chelmsford.

Having already claimed fourth place in the league the pressure was off the visitors who started brightly, pressing forward and retaining possession well. Danny Clow's hard work in the midfield, combined with Jim Bush's agile defending and vision opened play up on many occasions, allowing Clacton to surge forward through Stuart Perkins, Dan Potts and Steve Moriarty.

Clacton struck the first blow as Clow's mazy running gave him space to launch a ball across the goal and a last gasp dive from Perkins put the Seasiders in front.

Captain Tom Burridge in the Clacton goal kept the visitors in front with some acrobatic saves and a goal line clearance from Nik Patel ensured that Clacton retained their advantage at the break.

The second half began slowly and Chelmsford came forward looking for an equaliser. Solid defending from Bush, Patel, James Mead and Henry Smith, was rewarded when Clacton were able to launch a counter attack and veteran Steve Hawes fired home Clacton's second.

Chelmsford continued to press, but man-of-the-match Burridge kept his second consecutive clean sheet with a number of diving stops to prevent the young Chelmsford team closing the gap. Clacton travel to Dunmow next week in their last fixture of the season looking to finish on a high.
