CHELSEA are planning to launch a 15 million move for Benfica winger ngel Di Mara should Fifa lift their 18-month transfer embargo. (Telegraph)

Frank Arnesen, Chelsea's director of football, has watched the Portuguese side three times in recent weeks and has recommended Di Mara, an Argentina international, as well as his team-mates Javi Garcia and Fbio Coentro, to Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Chelsea have asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport to suspend the Fifa ban, imposed for inducing teenager Gel Kakuta to join the Stamford Bridge club, which extends for two transfer windows, while an appeal against their sanction is held.

It is believed the club hope to delay the appeal long enough to enable them to bolster their ranks in January, in case the punishment is maintained.

Di Maria, who has also been monitored by Liverpool and Manchester United, tore Everton apart in the Portuguese side's 5-0 Europa League win a fortnight ago and has admitted he would be tempted by a move to the Premier League.
