Cheltenham Town v Colchester United: Kane Vincent-Young is ready to “sort out” U’s away form
PUBLISHED: 16:00 15 September 2017
Kane Vincent-Young is convinced that once Colchester United get their first away win of the season, then others will quickly follow.
The U’s have suffered three straight defeats on the road this season, at Accrington Stanley, Luton Town and Cambridge United, and have in fact only won one away match throughout 2017, at Leyton Orient in late April.
Vincent-Young delivered a man-of-the-match display in the midweek 1-1 home draw against Chesterfield, and the 21-year-old Londoner is now focusing on replicating that form on the road, starting at Cheltenham tomorrow.
“We need to make sure we are very strong at Cheltenham, and if we can win our first away game, then I’m sure that others will come,” enthused Vincent-Young.
“Even with all the injuries, we still have a strong bench, so the competition is still there. And when the injured lads come back, competition will intensify.
“We’ve got to sort out away form, can’t ignore it, and it is something we are working on.
“It’s a strange one. We have come close, barring the Luton game. We’ve had our chances, and hopefully we can take one of those chances at Cheltenham.”
A product of the Tottenham Academy, Vincent-Young is already closing in on 50 senior appearances for the U’s. Tomorrow will be his 46th outing.
A natural right-back, or right wing-back, Vincent-Young is just as happy playing on the left, as he did against Chesterfield. And he might have to continue in that role, with right-back Ryan Jackson fighting fit again.
“Jacko is flying. We bounce off each other,” said Vincent-Young. “He’s been helping me out, and hopefully I can push him as well.
“It’s still early doors, and I still have a lot to prove. But I worked hard over the summer. I’ve put on some size to make sure I can deal with this league, because it’s very demanding. I needed to work on that.”
