Colchester started the new season in the NE14HOCKEY sponsored East League, Division One North with a disappointing loss away to Peterborough on Saturday.

Colchester dominated the first half using the width and switching the ball around the backs to create space and attacking opportunities.

However their failure to score was punished towards the end of the half when a missed clearance in front of goal fell to the Peterborough forward who slotted in from close range.

Colchester re-grouped for the second half and pushed hard for an early equaliser, however an over commitment going forward gave Peterborough the opportunity to outnumber the away side's defence on the counter attack, resulting in a 2-0 lead.

With nothing to lose Colchester changed into an attacking formation, forcing several penalty corners.

Reward came from one such corner where Louise Bibby pushed through a pin point pass to Helen Barnes who was waiting on the post to slot past the keeper.

At 2-1 Colchester felt they could get back into the game but another counter-attacking move by Peterborough pushed the score to 3-1, which sealed the victory for the home side.
