Chelmsford City have won the race to add prolific striker Danny Hockton to their squad after the former Millwall man put pen-to-paper at the club's first training session.

Barking-born forward Hockton, 30, has previously enjoyed a 16-goal season with the Clarets during the 2001/02 campaign and is a sought-after signing for Head Coach Glenn Pennyfather, who had made public his need for a player who would turn opportunities into goals.

Danny has a glistening reputation in the non-league game and has netted several times for other clubs against his new employers, including a strike for Braintree Town as recently as 13th April at Cressing Road.

He began his career at Millwall from 1996 to 2000, finding the net seven times in 44 appearances, 31 as a substitute. A loan spell at Leyton Orient then followed before his first transfer outside the Football League to Stevenage Borough in January 2000.

Eleven months later he moved to Dover Athletic and scored nine goals in twelve starts prior to a 7,500 fee leading to his initial period at Chelmsford.

After a season with the Clarets at New Lodge he signed for Crawley Town, then Billericay Town in 2003/04 for three seasons. It was here that he discovered his true goal-scoring form with a three-season spell, where he netted in every other game.

Margate were next to secure his services and, during the 2006/07 campaign, he won the Ryman League Golden Boot award with 36 goals in 40 appearances. Moves to Bromley and Braintree Town followed before the Clarets pounced for his signature.
