Clacton II 3 Chelmsford 1

Clacton continued their impressive run, remaining in the hunt for promotion, after a victory over local rivals Chelmsford.

Fielding a young squad, Clacton got off to a positive start, looking to attack and carry the game to the visitors. This approach paid dividends when Stuart Perkins slotted home from close range to put the hosts in front early on.

Clacton kept up the pressure on the opposition and the hard working midfield worked effectively. The youthful exuberance of Francis Sanderson and the experience of veteran Steve Hawes combined for the Seasider's second as Hawes struck a vicious shot from an acute angle which flew across the goal and snuck in at the far post.

The hosts took the opportunity to field a number of new players in this game, all of whom combined well together to keep Clacton in front. Solid defending from Henry Smith, confident attacking from Jack Calendar and accurate passing from Ryan Nippress proved that Clacton has a very bright future.

Chelmsford fought their way back into the game and a rare defensive error brought the visitors within touching distance. However, Clacton were able to raise the tempo again and man-of-the-match Russell Measor capped another fine performance with a well executed touch beyond the flailing Chelmsford

keeper.

Clacton host Wapping next week in a crucial encounter to decide who goes into Christmas holding a promotion berth.
