Clacton II 3 Witham III 2

Clacton put in a strong spirited performance to take all three points in a close match against Witham.

Witham started the brighter side and piled early pressure on Clacton, resulting in a succession of short corners, where they were able to convert to score the games first goal.

It looked like they would head into the break with the lead, but on the stroke of half time a superb solo effort from Stuart Perkins, rounding the keeper and slotting the ball coolly into the corner, levelled thing up.

Clacton came close a few times in the second half and looked comfortable on the ball, but a mix up at the back allowed the simplest of tap-ins for Witham to go 2-1 up.

With Clacton chasing the game Witham had a couple of chances to put the game to bed, but home keeper Steve Key made a string of exceptional saves to make up for his earlier mistake.

With less than five minutes to go Clacton worked a short corner with Rob Lukey taking the ball wide and finding James Mead who slotted the ball in off the post.

With little time remaining now, Chris Pines found himself in a decent position and unselfishly passed to man of the match Perkins to complete his brace and for Clacton to seal a dramatic late come back.
