GLENN Pennyfather has added to his Chelmsford City firepower up-front with the capture of former Chelsea and Hibernian striker Antonio Murray following his recent release by Blue Square Premier club Histon.

Murray, a pacey, skilful attacker, began his career in the Youth Team at Stamford Bridge before a successful traineeship at Ipswich Town where he earned his first professional contract. After two-and-a-half years with the Tractor Boys, in which he made a single appearance for the First Team against Derby County, he was transferred to Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League in January 2005.

He made a quick impact, however his time at Easter Road was blighted by injury and he was able to make just 13 appearances before re-building his career elsewhere. At the start of the 2006/07 campaign he trialled at Wycombe Wanderers but signed a permanent deal with Histon. Having sat on the sidelines at first, a spell of seven goals in nine games helped the Stutes to the top of the league and into the Conference National.

A former England C International who was selected for an International Challenge Cup game against Italy on November, 12, 2008, Antonio made his City debut in the 1-1 home draw with Dover Athletic on Monday. And Pennyfather was swift to sing his praises, saying: “He had a great debut and adds an extra dimension to our play because he's quick, willing and works the channels well. He will turn out to be an excellent asset as the season progresses.”
