RIDGEONS League side Leiston put in a sterling performance against a strong Ipswich team, but the Championship side's quality in the final third was the telling factor in their 3-0 win at Victory Road last night.

The visitors started with nine players with first-team experience and Roberts was first to show but dragged his shot wide. Legwinski then blazed over from the edge of the box before Leiston keeper Stannard made a superb stop to deny Clarke.

Haynes left three players in his wake before setting up Clarke but from 12 yards Stannard turned his shot onto the bar. These two combined on 18 minutes to open the scoring. Ipswich moved quickly from midfield and Clarke cut inside from the left before finding Haynes, who beat the advancing Stannard.

Almost immediately Leiston could have levelled as Stanley released McGlone but Plummer saved low to his right to keep out his 18-yard strike. Ipswich doubled their advantage from the penalty spot on 33 minutes. Manning brought down Clarke and he stepped up to comfortably beat Stannard.

Early in the second period Clarke added his second and the third, firing home from close in, while the closest Leiston came to a deserved response was when McGlone hooked over after Wilnis and Plummer had collided.
