Division One

Clifton 1 Harleston Magpies 0

(Abandoned after 45 minutes because of a flooded pitch)

Harleston Magpies started the match under a lot of pressure as Clifton forced them back into their own half for the opening ten minutes, but Magpies defended well and looked very solid at the back. Just as Magpies were starting to find their way into the game they conceded a penalty corner and Carla Dunnett scrambled the ball over the line after Magpies had defended the initial shots well.

Magpies were playing with increasing confidence and the quality of their passing was much improved from recent performances. Both Jess Bloom and Becky Wheeler threatened to create an opening down the right hand side and Magpies were very competitive in midfield. They could consider themselves unfortunate to be a goal down at half time.

The rain started to fall heavily at the start of the second half on an already very wet pitch, but Magpies were increasing the tempo. Donna Causton was unfortunate to see her short corner strike hit the inside of the post and fly across the face of the goal. Angie Wheelhouse moved on to a poor pass round the back, but the defender managed to force her wide before she could shoot. Eventually the game turned into a farce as the pitch became flooded and it was impossible to move the ball more than five yards. The game was abandoned with 15 minutes to go.
