COLCHESTER United boss John Ward has admitted that Clinton Morrison’s first goal in a U’s shirt, secured during last night’s pre-season friendly against Ipswich, will be a big boost to his summer recruit.

Morrison swept home a rebound, after 55 minutes, during the 2-1 defeat to Town. Michael Chopra netted a brace for the visitors.

“It was very important for Clinton to get his first goal,” insisted Ward.

“Chopra is in good form for Ipswich, and Freddie Sears is for us. I left Freddie out because I need him up my sleeve somewhere.

“But it was good for Clinton. He’s got fitter and stronger.

“He was a week or so behind when he came into the group, and that’s why I kept him out for the 90 minutes tonight.

“It’s always nice for a striker to get off the mark, especially at home, and especially against Ipswich,” added Ward,
