SOUTH African Jandre Coetzee, who did so much to help Sudbury win promotion from the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship last season, played a leading role in an extraordinary match in his homeland.

Coetzee returned match figures of nine for 54 for Griqualand West who defeated Easterns in one day in South Africa’s domestic first-class competition.

It was the first time that a completed match involving all four innings had not continued into a second day of the scheduled three-day fixture.

After Easterns were dismissed for 85 and 76, Griqualand replied with 123 all out and 39 for two to win by eight wickets.
