Coggeshall 2 Bury Town 1

A wonder goal from Conor Hubble and a Nnamdi Nwachuku breakaway strike saw Coggeshall on their way to a narrow victory as they made it six wins out of six to cement their play off aspirations while at the same time virtually end those of the visitors, writes Dave Meeson.

The introduction of Tanner Call for the second half certainly pepped up the Bury attack and it was Call who pulled a goal back with 25 minutes to go. However, the Seed Growers were able to see the game out and take the points.

There was a quiet start to proceedings with the only early effort of note coming from Nwachuku who headed wide at full stretch. Bury’s defence initially coped well as their organized back line caught the home strikers offside on several occasions.

However, Coggeshall then opened the scoring out of the blue on 23 minutes. There seemed no imminent danger when the hosts were awarded a free kick 35 yards from goal only for Hubble to produce a brilliant swerving strike with pace and power which arrowed into the top corner.

Bury tried to fight back and Tyler Brampton went close to heading a Joe White cross into his own net. Ben Chenery’s men then forced a series of free kicks deep in the Coggeshall half which came to nothing.

Coggeshall could have increased their lead with Curtis Haynes-Brown and Nwachuku going close in a goalmouth scramble.

Nwachuku made it 2-0 just before the break as he burst clear from halfway before cutting inside and driving the ball into the bottom corner. Hubble then struck a post directly from a corner.

Bury needed half-time to re-organise and they began to look more dangerous inspired by the promptings of Ryan Horne and it was Horne who started the move which ended with Call wriggling clear of the home defence to reduce the arrears.

Almost immediately Ollie Hughes made a great run along the by-line only for Dexter Peter to clear the danger.

Nwachuku then forced Bury keeper Luis Tibbles to superbly push his effort over the bar. However, try as they might the visitors could not force the equaliser and the final result leaves Coggeshall 12 points clear of AFC Sudbury who are now their nearest challengers for a play off place at the end of the season.
