Division One South
Colchester 1 Brentwood 0
Colchester took all three points in a closely fought game against Brentwood on Saturday.
The home side took control from the start and pushed forward at every opportunity. Terri Chiam came the closest to breaking the deadlock with her shot going just wide. The visitors started to influence the game towards the end of the half but were unable to get the decisive shot on goal.
Colchester started the second half as they had the first, passing the ball around neatly and combining well in midfield. The deadlock was finally broken when Anna Foley skilfully dribbled the ball into the Brentwood area and made herself enough space to power in a shot, which the keeper could only deflect out to Louise Bibby who slotted home from close range.
Colchester, now with the goal they felt they deserved, continued to work hard with Karen Harris, in particular, closing down the Brentwood players at every opportunity. Colchester's defensive pairing of Naomi Allen and Angela Evans also produced a fine display to keep Brentwood at bay, but it was Colchester keeper Jess Gurney who prevented a late equaliser by marshalling a Brentwood forward away from goal in a one-on-one situation. Colchester held on to the win and were delighted with a solid three point display.
