Colchester moved up to third place with a hard fought home win over Peterborough on Saturday.

Colchester were prepared for a tough game against a Peterborough side who had comfortably won the reverse fixture at the start of the season but, with more confidence in the side after a run of victories, Colchester were ready to battle for the three points.

The first half was end to end, with the home side earning numerous short corners, none of which they were able to convert.

Peterborough looked strong on the break, but Colchester remained organised in defence and kept a clean sheet going into half time.

The second half saw opportunities at both ends, with neither side seemingly able to score from a short corner.

Colchester had Lorraine Arthur to thank for several crucial blocks of the corner strike, while at the other end Karen Harris went closest, slotting the ball just wide of the post.

Just as time was running out Colchester were awarded another short corner from which Anna Foley slipped the ball right to Sarah Rose, who played the ball back in for Helen Wall to strike past the keeper and finally give Colchester the lead.

The home side stayed firm and held on to an important victory, pushing them up the league table.
