Division One South League
Colchester 1 Gravesend 1
Colchester fought hard to come back from one goal down and earn themselves a last gasp draw against Gravesend on Saturday.
Both sides started brightly, passing the ball around at pace and creating half chances at either end. Colchester had several clear cut opportunities in the first half, but indecision in front of goal meant the Gravesend keeper was able to comfortably save the final shot on goal. At the other end Naomi Allen marshalled the home side's defence, which prevented any clear cut opportunities for the visitors. The sides went into half time with the score tied at 0-0.
The second half saw Gravesend step up a gear and it wasn't long before they caught out the Colchester defence, outnumbering them in a move which saw players queuing up to score. The ball was finally slotted away from close range to give Gravesend a 1-0 lead.
Colchester fought themselves back into the game and were again creating chances but seemed unable to get the decisive shot away. With only five minutes remaining Colchester finally took advantage of their pressure when Louise Bibby's penalty corner strike fell to Helen Barnes who controlled and slotted away from close range. The score remained 1-1, a fair result on the day.
