Colchester 3 Folkestone 2

In their final game before the Christmas break Colchester came back twice from behind to beat Folkestone 3-2 on Saturday.

The home side started poorly and were under constant pressure for the opening ten minutes. Having failed to clear their lines on several occasions it was only a matter of time before Folkestone took the lead. Colchester slowly started to play themselves back into the game with their reward coming near the end of the first half when an Anna Foley free hit from just outside the 'D' was touched in by Helen Peters.

The second half continued with both teams playing at pace, but it was again the visitors who took advantage after a sweeping move from within their own half resulted in an unmarked player powerfully slotting away from close range, giving Folkestone a 2-1 lead.

Colchester refused to give up and their attacking moves were rewarded with numerous penalty corners. The equaliser came from one such penalty corner where a miss-hit strike fell fortuitously for Mel Cooper who powered in from close range.

With the score at 2-2, and not long left on the clock, Colchester pushed once more and grabbed the winner from another penalty corner, where Louise Bibby was once again on hand to neatly strike the ball past the Folkestone keeper. A delighted Colchester now go into the break comfortably sitting mid table.
