Colchester produced a strong home performance to beat local rivals Southend 4-0 on Saturday.
The home side made a determined start to the game pressurising every Southend pass which resulted in the visitors being camped in their own half for much of the early play. Colchester took an early lead as Mel Cooper reacted well to a penalty corner strike, which she managed to deflect into the Southend goal. Colchester continued to press and Southend found it increasingly difficult to get the ball through the Colchester players, causing much frustration as Colchester looked for a second goal.

With Colchester's confidence soaring a third goal was soon on the cards as a penalty corner strike from Louise Bibby powered past the Southend keeper. The tie was put beyond doubt when Louise Bibby snatched her second of the game after some determined play which saw her slot past the keeper to give Colchester a comfortable 4-0 victory.
