Colchester United boss, John McGreal, praised the dynamic performance of teenage attacker Courtney Senior after the U’s 2-0 home win over Newport County this afternoon.

Ben Stevenson marked his U’s debut with the opening goal as the U’s celebrated their first victory in six matches, after he was superbly set up by a dazzling run and cross from Senior.

Midfielder Stevenson, signed on loan from Wolves on transfer deadline day, swept the U’s in front on 59 minutes, just 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute for the injured Sean Murray.

And Tom Eastman made the game safe by sliding home the second at the far post on 79 minutes.

“This was an excellent win for us, against a good side,” enthused McGreal.

“We managed to combat them and then play off them. It was a very even first half, but I thought we came into our own in the second half.

“It was an excellent second-half performance from us.”

Of Senior’s performance, McGreal joked: “I didn’t think he had one of his better games today!”

But McGreal then added: “Actually, I thought he was outstanding for us.

“Courtney is a very talented boy and we will do well to keep him fit.”
