Colchester United’s scheduled home match against Shrewsbury Town tonight has been called off following a second pitch inspection this afternoon.
An earlier pitch inspection, at 9.30am, was inconclusive, but match official Gary Sutton, of Lincolnshire, called off the game after viewing the waterlogged playing surface this afternoon, with more rain planned for later in the day.
This all means that Joe Dunne’s men will have gone two weeks without a game, before this Saturday’s short trip to Peterborough.
The U’s last outing was a 4-2 win at Carlisle last Saturday week. They had no game last weekend due to Sheffield United’s continued interest in the FA Cup.
The Essex club are currently 12th in the League One table, following a run of 13 points gathered from a possible 18 in their last six games.
