Colchester United boss, John McGreal, has revealed that the Essex club received a bid for one of their players, on transfer deadline day yesterday.

However, McGreal also revealed that the player in question was NOT Sammie Szmodics, the attacking midfielder who had attracted such raging speculation in previous weeks.

“There were a lot of whispers, and we received one offer that in the end did not materialise,” said McGreal, during this lunchtime’s press conference at Florence Park.

“We thought that we might lose one (a player) on transfer deadline day, but that did not happen.

“It was not Sammie (Szmodics). It was someone different, though we will keep his identity hush, hush,”added McGreal.
