Colchester United extended their 100% record in pre-season, with a fourth win from four friendlies following last night’s comfortable 2-0 home win over a West Ham XI.
Drey Wright broke the deadlock after just five minutes, and Denny Johnstone headed home his third goal of pre-season just after the hour mark, against a very young Hammers side.
Johnstone enthused: “I’m really happy with the way things are going.
“One of my main objectives was to score some goals this pre-season, because I think back to 12 months ago when I never actually managed to get off the mark with a goal in pre-season, to set me up for the season ahead.
“So I’m happy that I’ve got three goals already,” added front-man Johnstone.
U’s boss John McGreal said: “It was more of a technical, tactical game, against a young West Ham team. I thought our boys put on a terrific show and did the job. I was pleased with the overall display.”
