Ipswich Town midfielder Cole Skuse has signed a new contract which will keep him at Portman Road until at least the summer of 2020.

Skuse’s deal had been due to expire at the end of this season, although the Blues did hold an option to automatically extend it for 12-months, but he has now committed his future to the club until 2020. There is again an option to extend that for a further 12 months.

The midfielder has been a near ever-present since joining from Bristol City in 2013, making 195 appearances and scoring twice, but admitted he is delighted to put the uncertainly that comes with an expiring contract behind him.

“I’m delighted to have got it done,” Skuse said.

“I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been thinking about it because I’ve got a family to look after. I’ve got kids at school and things like that.

“I’m not one to be badgering the hierarchy at the club and the manager though. I have just got my head down and concentrated on my football and it’s that that reflects on a deal being done really.”

Skuse also admitted he would be open to extend his stay with the Blues beyond his playing days, with a future coaching role something he would consider.

“Things can change in football but if I could finish my career here and then go down a different path of working at the club, maybe as a coach that would be great,” he said.

“I have spoken to Bryan Klug and he said they’d love for me to do some work with the Academy.

“So if that is a route I go down, I’d love to do that here.”
